Case Study: The Viceroy Story

In March of 2014 , 30 people united at the Viceroy Riviera Maya to celebrate their accomplishments. Traveling from three different countries, the attendees were brought together for an incentive trip rewarding the software company’s top performers.

Being the third incentive trip for most of the attendees, the challenge for Stellar Journeys was to create an experience that was both extraordinary and unforgettable.

Stellar Journeys set the scene with lodging at a 41-villa Mexican luxury resort touted as “a sexy, eco-conscious hideaway in the jungle” by Travel & Leisure magazine. The Viceroy Rivera Maya is a serene and tranquil escape hidden within the small village of Playa Xcalacoco just outside Playa del Carmen. Guests were personally welcomed upon arrival to the resort and led through the tropical forest paths to their sanctuary for the week, a private palapa-roofed bungalow that included a plunge pool and outdoor showers. First stop was to receive the traditional heartfelt welcome performed by the resort’s Shaman.

After some time to settle in and start to get a feel for the tranquility and adventures that lay ahead, the group met for a reception that included a tequila and ceviche tasting. It was guided by the resort’s Maestro Tequilero, revealing the secrets and history of Mexico’s signature, age-old liquor and then pairing it with three creative and delicious ceviche combinations.

The following evening, after a day of exploring the rich Mayan history and culture of the archaeological ruins, the group enjoyed dinner and a musical experience in the dry cenotes of Rio Secreto. An Atlanta based singer/songwriting duo welcomed the guests as they made their way through the caverns of Rio Secreto, arriving at a candlelight dinner with an acoustic concert of original and cover songs performed in an unbelievable setting.

For nearly two hours, the guests reveled in the knowledge that they were sharing a one-of-a-kind experience.

For the final night, the group gathered after dinner by the outdoor fire pit to enjoy the musical experience of a local singer as well as the Atlanta based duo, where they shared songs, stories of the road and unplanned sing-a-longs.

For those that were not quite ready to say goodbye and good night to their fellow travelers and the adventure of the Mexican Riviera, Stellar Journeys arranged VIP package for guests to attend the famous local show and disco experience, Coco Bongo.
